" First Strike "
by Suzán Jiván
Mom & Mom-
Mom Suzán
First strike peculiar
purple lights
earnestly revived
during jittery times
while boldly rewriting
nursery rhymes
with vim & style
watching the rent
climbing
like sound-effected
maestros
conducting folk revivals
packed
with songwriters'
synthesizers
fiercely unwinding
outrageous
highs
as heat rises
mostly as grim
reminders
of plexiglass
skylights
at nighttimes'
political climes
prodding
gloved fingers
poking
wooden sticks
into hyper-
mobility
from misty
team leaders
hawking not-really
throbbing energies
within municipal museums
of smock-wearing activities
in lesser-known galleries
as red-spotted spiders
spin sticky designs
over red-caped crusaders
calculatingly swaying
and baying, "Olés"...
